Subaru Legacy

Are you looking for a Subaru Legacy?

Q: How much is my Subaru Legacy Station Wagon worth?
I’ve got a Subaru Legacy Station Wagon 1.8 DL (no 4×4 + 5 gearbox) in a mint condition and it has got a little less than 100.000 miles. It passed a technical control two weeks without any problems.

Being from Europe I don’t know if this version was available in the US but how much do you think it is worth today?

A: go to www.nadaguides.com and type in your vehicles information. Click on the used car button first and then go from there.

Q: Why has my 1997 Subaru Legacy Wagon been getting very poor gas mileage?
I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy Wagon with about 80,000 miles on it in the Northeast United States. The last few tanks, I have been averaging only 10 to 11 miles per gallon. This is all city driving, but this 4-cylinder car should still be getting much better mileage. Do you have any idea what could be wrong?
The oil was changed recently.

Tire inflation is correct.
I checked the manual, and the car requires 87 gasoline, which I have been using.

A: I think that if you have the aforementioned black tailpipe soot buildup, then I’d concentrate on the temp sensor and the Oxygen Sensor(s). The temperature sensor will be likely cheaper to replace yourself. It’s relatively easy to locate between the Power steering reservoir and the alternator(getting a $20 Haynes repair manual at Advanced Auto or AutoZone type store for your car will help with simple repairs like this. This link to autohausaz.com has the sensor for like $23. If you need some other parts for your car or want to order both O2 sensors too, they do free ground UPS shipping for any order over $50.

http://sd.autohausaz.com/autohausaz/detailw.jsp?sid=mvlo1w450xmsziusyojwgp45&partner=autohausaz&year=1997&make=13&model=406~105~88~~121~~6@Legacy%20L,%202.2%20H4,%20AWD&category=240621@Fuel%20Injection&part=240675@Water%20Temp.%20Sensor

The Oxygen sensors are expensive enough that I’d test them first before replacing them. They can be real bears to remove due to rust issues and tight quarters under the car. With 80k on your car and if you know for sure that the O2 sensors haven’t been replaced since the car was new, it’s a pretty good bet that they are part of the problem. Compare what Advanced Auto gets for their Bosch brand O2 sensors with what autohausaz and some other outlets get for them. O2 sensors are all pretty much the same, the important part is that the connectors fit your car and the wires are long enough. If you are good at soldering and heat shrinking, you could buy generic O2 sensors with the correct number of wires for your car(usually 3.4.or 5) and save some money that way. For what shops charge for repairs these days, it pays to get dirty and fix this stuff yourself.

Good luck

Q: Does anyone know where I can find a decently priced bra for my 97 Subaru Legacy?
I’m driving an old Subaru Legacy and I’d love to cover up the chips on the front bumper by using a car bra. I’ve looked on ebay and some other sites, but can’t find one for under $75. If you know of anyone selling one or a site that can help please let me know. Thanks!

A: Try Craigslist.com

Q: How many miles can you get out of a Subaru Legacy Outback, usually?
I’ve got a ‘98 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon, that has about 167K miles on it… how many miles can one usually get out of them if they’re properly maintained?

A: Ive seen older subie wagons with over 300k on them.

Q: Is the trunk pass through access hole in the 2005 Subaru Legacy large enough to lay in a snowboard?
I have a snowboard and I would like to know if I can fit one in the trunk to the rear seat area through the access hole in the Subaru Legacy Sedan?

A: yes you can.

Q: What problems with 1994 Subaru Legacy GT automatic at 91000kms?
Hi,

What problems are common with Automatic twin turbo 1994 Subaru Legacy GT’s that have done 91,000 KMS (56,544 miles)

I know that the timing belt will be nearer is due date. What else should I look at when buying this car?

A: this is an excellent car!!!

OK, take shields off of the turbos if possible and make sure there’s no cracks or leaks on their housings. If you see oil or cracks, they need replaced. Also check the manifold leading from the engine to the turbo, this is a popular place for cracks to form.

Check the driveshafts (CV joints), if they’re cracked and you see/feel grease they need replaced. Look at the steering joints where it comes out of the rack, they are prone to splitting too.

Popular rust spots on this car are on the rear fenders directly behind the rear wheel where the bumper meets fender, and by the gas fill. Check with a magnet to make sure they’re not just filled with putty.

Drive the car forwards and reverse in tight circles at low speed. Make sure everything’s smooth and you don’t hear thumping. If you do, probably replace driveshafts.

Drive down the road at full throttle and look for oil coming out the tailpipe. If its not burning oil and feels strong and smooth you probably have a good engine.

Good luck!

Q: How much weight can you put in a 2000 Subaru legacy wagon?
i have a 2000 Subaru legacy wagon and i am building a walk way to my house. i need sand for this walk way. the bags are 50lbs each. how much weight can i safely put in the back of my Subaru?

A: Total weight in the car 1000 pounds. Total towing is about 2000 pounds.

Q: Occassional Stall in a 91 Subaru Legacy Wagon?
My 1991 Subaru Legacy Wagon AWD Automatic starts and drives fine but begins to “sputter” after about 5 minutes. Sometimes it stalls and sometimes it will keep going and the sputtering stops for a while (a few miles), then it sputters again.

What could cause this?

A: It sounds to me like your fuel pump is going out. basically is what happens is when you first start you car it is running fine but when you drive it for a minute it starts to heat up and it doesnt pump enough fuel causing the car to sputter. I had the same problem on my 97 mustang a while back.

Q: what is the proper procedure to bleed the cooling system for subaru legacy?
92 Subaru Legacy, BC2, EJ18, thermostat does not open even with a new one, and radiator fan does not stop and that happen after replacing water pump and filling the coolant. bleeder plug has been opened, even the car has been jacked at the front. still the radiator fan working and thermostat does not open.

A: go to http://www.ultimatesubaru.org
go to the forum section, then the new generation section.
There are probably quite a few people who can help.

I think some of the guys fill the engine up thru the top coolant hose, then install it. That’s what I did the last time.

Dumb question I know, thermostat in right?

Q: Where can I buy the little button on the parking brake of my ‘96 Subaru Legacy?
My sister has a 1996 Subaru Legacy. She broke the little button that releases the parking brake. I’d like to fix it for her.

A: Try the link below. They have everything you need.

Q: How do I get my 1998 Subaru Legacy AWD to get more than 12 MPG!! I should get 21 mpg. ?
I bought a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback AWD – it has 85,000 and I only get 12 miles to the gallon. I get exactly 100 miles for half a tank of gas which comes out to about 12 mpg when I should be getting 21mpg. Any thoughts?

A: For one I had a Subaru just not the one you have now . Vary good car . OK now to your question .
New Tires : Run your tires around 32psi
Tune Up : Plugs , Wire , Rotor Cap . etc .
Timing : Have your timing checked . IF it is off by a few degrees it will cost you in the long run .
Have your Fuel Filter changed as well .
Oil : Change it ” if you have had that done already ” .
Brakes ” yes your brakes can have a lot in the play with gas mileage ” .
Here is some thing that most people do not pay attention on . Your tires are SPEED RATED .
Example : 2006 Chevrolet Corvette, C6 : Tire rating is a Z rated tire meaning for high speeds .
Chevrolet Cobalt : tire rating is H rating meaning low speeds .
which results to better gas mileage than the Corvette C6 .
For me i prefer trucks but that just me I guess . I own a 1996 Chevy Silverado Z71 4×4 .

i hope that gives you some ideas to look at . Have a wonderful weekend .

Q: what cars are similar to the 1992 subaru legacy?
i have a 1992 subaru legacy and im looking 2 buy a body kit. 1 problem, they dont make body kits 4 that car. so i need 2 know what cars would be similar enough to make a custom kit out of.

Q: Know of a 2003 Subaru legacy performance exhaust upgrade package for purchase?
I have a 2003 Subaru Legacy LSE sedan. I am interested in upgrading the exhaust to a performance exhaust system and was wondering if anyone has ever done an exhaust upgrade to this model or knows of a exhaust system package available for purchase.
i have looked at alot of web sites that sell performance exhaust kits… but none are specifically for the 2003 legacy. I wonder if a kit for a 2005 would fit a 2003… any ideas?

A: www.raceinspired.com , www.fluidmotorsports.com , www.directtuning.com Those are some trusted sites I do business with, they should have an exhaust system. Id also go with a intake and a midpipe. Although not necessary.
