Q: What is the difference in a Trans Am Firehawk and a Firebird Firehawk?
I have found a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk and a 2002 Firebird Firehawk and they are basically exactly the same accept for the words on the back. (one says firebird and one says Trans Am) I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the difference in the two.
A: The difference in the two is the look. Yea ok they both are F-bodys and all, but if your a true trans am fanatic you can tell the difference. Forexample i have a 2002 pontiac firehawk TRANS AM. The difference between that and the firebird, is that the firebird originated off the FORMULA. If you look on the body of the FORMULA, you will notice the difference in foglights, and the daytime light’s (orange lights) which also are used for your blinkers. If you look on the TRANS AM version on the firehawk, it will have the two foglights on the bottom, and your (orange lights) different compared to the FIREBIRD, firehawk. As far as the performance, there isnt a difference. They both share the same suspension and ls1 mods as SLP offers for a firehawk. It’s just the body is a little different. In my perspective id say the trans am firehawk is a lil better looking. Most Firbird Firehawks dont have the Daytona wing in the back as the Trans am Firehawks came out with. If your not to sure what im talking about, on my car it has the long brake light in the back. Hope this helps……
Q: How do I get the seats of a ponitac trans am repaired?
My husband is deployed right now and I would like to either have his seats re-upholstered, or get new seats as a surprise for when he gets back. He drives a 98 pontiac trans am. I am clueless when it comes to cars, so how do I go about getting this done. Any suggestions? I don’t just want to buy seat covers.

Q: Does the 30th anniversary Pontiac Trans Am come equipped with an Ls1 engine?
Does the 30th anniversary Pontiac Trans Am come equipped with an Ls1 engine? I know it has the Ws6 package, but I haven’t been able to find out what type of engine it has other than the ordinary Pontiac 5.7 liter 350ci V8.
A: Yes… LS1 for the 30 th Anniversary model
LS1 took over the emgine compartment in all T/A’s in August 1997, To the 1998 year models

Q: How much horsepower does a 1979 trans am have stock?
I am 17 and I’m getting my first car and I wanted to know how much horsepower a 1979 trans am with a 6.6 402 engine has stock. Thanks in advance.
A: Just a rough guess, but I’d say about 150 hp. It’s a 403, by the way, not 402. I had that engine in my ‘79 Olds 98. Good engine.
Q: How do I remove the door logos from my 96 trans am?
I want to remove the “trans am” logo from the door of my trans am. I would like to remove them so that I can paint them. Once the painting is done i would like to put them back on the car.

Q: What diagnostics equipment to use for a 1995 trans am?
I know that my 1995 trans am has an OBD1 system with an OBD2 port. What is the cheapest setup I could use to get trouble codes from this system? I would prefer it if I could put some software on my laptop.
A: I explained to you before how to retrieve the codes, and that is cheap. If you would rather have some fancy program for a lap top, be ready to fork out at least 400 bucks. Good luck. Christopher
Q: How much is a y88 trans am steering wheel worth?
My dad found a y-88 1978 gold edition trans am steering wheel…..We dont have any use for it and we are thinking about selling it. It has gold spokes with the gold bird emblem. Also includes part to hook it onto. Almost mint condition. We found the one with silver spokes without peice to hook it on valued at $153.00. If you want it we may sell it to you. Have to ask dad first.
A: I am in the mkt for a Y88 wheel, but I have no idea what to value it at! I’m 59, a farmer, and am having a guy do some resto on our very first “married” car…….a ‘78 Y88. My wheel has the
vinyl coat coming off the underlying foam.

Q: Will a custom subwoofer enclosure for a 95 camaro fit a 94 trans am?
I am thinking about buying a subwoofer enclosure from someone who had a 95 camaro for my 94 trans am. Should the box fit my 1994 trans am model? I know I have seen the custom enclosures for 93-97 trans ams/camaros so if anyone knows any help would be appreciated.

Q: Where can I buy the original stereo for a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am?
I bought a Trans Am on which both the stereo and the stearing wheel buttons don’t work. I am looking for the originals, so as to replace the ones I have. I searched for the originals through sites that sell used car parts, however I haven’t been able to find a site that includes stereos and stearing wheels.
A: you can still order these through a dealer or maybe find a good one at a salvage yard for it,if you want it new a dealer can order it ,but they cost a few hundred for the originals ,through a salvage yard maybe 100 bucks,big difference in price ,good luck.
Q: What mods should I put on my 1997 Trans Am WS6 to increase horsepower?
My Pontiac Trans Am is currently stock and I am looking at ways to increase horsepower and torque. What is the best cost-effective way to accomplish this. I realize Kenne Bell superchargers are great, but have you seen the price tags those things carry??
A: Your engine as well as the one in the same year camaro z-28 is basically a slightly detuned corvette engine. I would switch the detuned parts over to the corvette parts for that year, get a Borla exhaust to free up some restricted horsepower, run Mobil 1, or Royal Purple lubricants throughout, and also check with GM’s in house performance group that produced the Fire Hawk firebirds and the SS camaro. I cannot remember what that site is though. You know, the 98 model of your car has an LS series engine, so maybe see about finding a donor wrecked 98 with low miles and do a swap. But keep your original engine as your vehicle is quite a collector’s item and is currently raising in value. Have fun!
Q: Whats a good Fast Motor that will fit in a 84 Trans am?
I’m planning on getting a 1984 Trans Am with a 305 v8. And eventually i wanna put a better (faster) motor in it so can someone help me out. If u can tell me a good tranny that would be good too.
Just found out it has a Pozzy(Prolly Spelt wrong) Rear end, Duel Exhaust, And a Shift kit.
A: Any 1987 or newer 350 chevy engine would be a good candidate to replace the 305. All 87 and newer 350’s have roller cams and good flow characteristics. Tune port injected motors have good strong mid range and stock will rev to 5500rpm’s. Another motor to consider is the 1991 and newer LT1 or LS1 350’s, although you will need a donor car or after market wiring looms to complete this conversion. The best transmission for this swap will be the 700 R4, but it has to be beefed up to take anything more than 250 horse. Have fun. =)
Q: Why does my car Trans Am backfire when I get to 3rd gear?
I have a 1979 Trans AM with a ‘76 400, a Th400, 750 Holley carb, all new spark plugs and wires, and a new distributer. Can’t figure out why it backfires when I climb into 3rd gear about 3 or 4 times then clears out. Just started happening about 2 weeks ago. Could it have something to do with my harmonic balancer needing to be replaced?
A: Could be the beginnings of a worn camshaft. (had a 78 Camaro did this) Also could be carburation. Does it backfire through the exhaust or up through the carb? If through the exhaust its too much fuel going out the exhaust unburned. If its back up the carb its usually running lean. Sticky valves, worn cam, sticky linkage on the carb. Good hunting.
Q: Where can I find hood detailing for a trans am?
My boyfriend’s 18th birthday is coming up and he has a trans am that he is absolutely in LOVE with. He wants to get a bunch of stuff done to it and one of them is getting the firebird painted on his hood; or a decal of it. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could possibly get this or any websites I could go to so I could look into it for him. Please help me… I want to make his birthday amazing.

Q: Can a 1985 IROC engine and transmission fit in a 1988 Pontiac Trans AM?
The IROC engine I believe is a 305 hooked to an automatic transmission and the Trans Am is 305 with an automatic transmission. I know little about cars so I need to know with it be an easy hook up or would I need to make new motor mounts? Also what else would I need to do?
A: Yes, its the same physical size as your 5.7 TPI motor
But Its not as powerful as your 5.7 350
The 305 TPI IROC with its transmission will slip right in and everything will match up even your air cleaner intake.
The oil presure sensor on your 305 might be for a light instead of a gauge so you will need to look at it BEFORE you install the motor. And most people would recommend you swap out the ECM for the fuel injection also.
I would look for a 86 to 92 5.7L (350) to put back in it if your motor is Not rebuildable. Now would be the time to increase HorsePower not put in Less horsepower ?
Q: How much should i sell my trans am hurst hatch t top for?
I have a Hurst hatch t-top out of a 1976 Trans am that i am looking to sell. I only have the driver side because some one busted the other out of my car. What is a reasonable asking price for it? It is in good shape
From what i can gather they are pretty hard to find and i found a whole set to be from $800 to $1,000
A: 70 to 100 if it’s in really good condition.
