karmann ghia
Are you looking for a karmann ghia?
Q: What is the current value of a 1960 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia?
Body is straight no accidents, paint in good condition little rust nothing major. hard top, manual trans.
A: check out www.thesamba.com for comparison prices… old VW’s are worthless on the blue book or as trade-ins. But they are priceless to the average buyer… Prices vary so wildly for Ghias.
Q: The doors on my 72 VW Karmann Ghia doors touch the front fenders?
I cannot paint because both doors rub against the front fenders, it will cause the paint to chip. I was thinking about grinding off metal on the edge, but is that safe? Please help!
A: the doors can be adjusted, I would grind them off as a last resort, if you can’t adjust them a bodyshop can.
Q: Anywhere to get a Karmann Ghia in So Cal?
I want to buy a Karmann Ghia and was wondering if anyone knows any good places to buy one in southern California. Any help appreciated.

Q: How do I open the gas door on my 1971 convertible Karmann Ghia?
I received this answer for a previous question, “I think you push on the edge where you see the cutout and it flips open. I used to have one I’m just not remembering exactly”, but there is no cutout in the gas door of my convertible. I am thinking it might be because I didn’t put “convertible” in the first question.
A: Actually it is proper to put a question about a Ghia under Porsche, especially ‘70 ad 71, most of the parts of the cars are Porsche parts insides the cars, so they may be VW’s on the outside, but they are Porsche’s on the inside. I have 2 Porsches and on Ghia, so I know.
Q: MY generator broke in my 1972 VW Karmann Ghia new one. The engine is actually from a VW Thing.?
MY generator broke in my 1972 VW Karmann Ghia, I need a new one. The engine is actually from a VW Thing. I don’t know what year. Are all generators the same? What should I get? And any cheap?
A: Most stock VW generators are the same. Take it off the car and take it to a parts store they can match the numbers to be sure.
Q: How do you open a ‘74 Karmann Ghia’s trunk?
I swear, I’ve tried every damn thing. I’ve pulled on the logo, pushed it, removed the panel under the dash to look, etc.
Who knows how to open it?
On another random note, why are there two pedals (both look the same, adjacent to gas)
A: theres a cable in the glove box and ones a clutch pedal other nice to have a brake
Q: how does a guy find the firing order on the distributer of his 1974 vw karmann ghia?
ive got a sandrail with a vw motor and i have gas and spark but the plug wires are in the wrong order. i know the cylinder order but not the distributer order
A: Firing order is 1-4-3-2. It’s stamped on the case under the distributor stand.
Q: How to open a locked karmann ghia?
ok so i got to school this morning and i did not notice i left the key on the ignition and i closed the car now the car is loked and the keys are inside the car im 16 miles away from home and do not have a spare key help trying to open the car i tryed pushing down the window but it wont…help… thanks guys
A: You need a thin flat piece of metal (butter knife). Use that metal to slide between the vent window and track. Stick it in at the bottom and slide it up to unlatch the vent window. Stick hand through the window and unlock door.
Q: Now that they have the “New” VW Beattle, what about a new Karmann Ghia?
I love my 1968 Karmann Ghia. Do you think VW will (finally) come out with a new version of it?
A: unfortunately i highly doubt it. if they do it will not look anything like the air cooled ones. its will probably not even resemble it mechanically so it wont even have the feel of driving an old VW which is one of the reasons i love air cooled VW’s. remember the 2001 vw concept for a “new” bus? http://www.vanagon.com/media/concept/index.htm
yeah if you squint really really hard it sort of looks like a bay window. but its not even close. front engine, water cooled V6.
but if they do i really hope they make “new”, “old” ghias
Q: VW Karmann Ghia tachometer installation ( vw beetle) rev counter?
i have decided to fit a rev counter to my 1971 karmann ghia.
i have bought a rev counter.
there are three wires coming from it.
one is live, one is earth, where does the third go?
is it the low tension or high tension on the coil?
A: Most of the old style tachometers work in the same way and the third wire goes on the negative side of the low tension wiring at the coil.
On one side of the coil you have an ignition feed and on the other side, that goes to the distributor is the negative side.
Q: What is involved on “degunking” a carburater on a 1972 VW Karmann Ghia? It has been sitting for 2 years,
The car has been sitting for 2 years. I have used choke spray cleaner and managed to get it started, then it stalls . Will it help to remove the carburater and have it cleaned? Is this something relatively easy to do yourself??
A: If you are sure the carb is the problem you probably need to get a rebuild kit and have the carb boiled out to clean up all the passage ways. They used to make a special cleaner for this and you just disassembled the carb and soaked the metal parts in it for a day. Removed, cleaned and reassembled. However with the advent of fuel injection this may no longer be available. Just need to check with your local auto parts store. No point in having a mechanic rebuild as you can get a new one with a guarantee for about the same price. Check your local auto parts stores or jcwhitney.co,
Q: hey i have a 62 karmann ghia but i need bumpers for it,?
hey i have a 62 karmann ghia but i need bumpers for it, what bumpers fit besides the 62 karmann ghia, do any other Models fit or later years or earlyer? or do any other cars have some that fit ?

Q: What two colors would look good together on a Karmann Ghia, if I painted it two-tone?
A: i personally think a lighter shade of blue with a white roof would be pretty cool. here is a pic of what i mean. the blue could be a bit darker in my opinion.

Q: How to burn ruber in a karmann ghia 72?
hi i have a 72 karmann ghia and i would like to know how to burn ruber and make donuts with it i saw something that told you how to do it but it did not have a specific car so i tryed it but at the begibing it seemed it was going to work but at the end it did not work it just moved foward it had to do with puting the hand brake and aselerate it in 1 gear and slowly let go of the clutch but it did not work
A: its not good for the car. especially the small and weak clutches on air cooled VW’s, but here’s how you can show off for your friends once a month unless you want to buy a new clutch and tires every year.
with your Ghia stopped(on a level surface), put it in first gear. give it WAY more gas then you would when you accelerate from a stop normally and let the clutch out rather slowly. that should do it. it helps with a ghia or bug if you are on a bit of gravel because the engines were not built for this kind of driving.
Q: I have a 1972 Karmann Ghia, and I am looking to get more horsepower out of it, any ideas?
The car produces I think 80 horse power stock, I am considering a porsche flat 6. Over all I am looking for about 175-250 hp. Anyone have any ideas.
A: By the way that karmann ghia has more like 53hp stock. Ibeen doing aircooled vw’s for like 17 years now and the best reliable hp engine upgrade you can go with in that hp range you just mentioned is going to a type 4 vw motor. Basicly the vw made porsche 914 engine. There is a guy out of cleveland GA, (jake raby) of aircooledtechnologies.com can hook you up with anything you need for your ghia. Best thing about that type 4 motor, you are sure to get 100k miles out of it without the same problems you have with type 1 motors. Check his website out and see what you think. Good luck.
