Q: What is the difference between a 1968 Pontiac LeMans and GTO?
What is the difference between a 1968 Pontiac Le Mans and GTO?
I know (or at least I think I know) that the hood, front bumper, and engine(V8) are differnet but is there more? O ya im 13 and I’m trying to find my first vehicle and i found a 1968 Le Mans GTO clone and thats why I needed the difference. Any bit of information would be helpful. Thanks.

A: It’s the same car with different amenities as you pointed out in your question. Basically LeMans was more of an everyday kind of car and had more creature comforts & convenience options. The GTO was a high performance sport version usually with a 389-400 V8 engines and a very basic interior. My advice to you is to learn as much about this car as possible especially the vin numbers, so you can tell if the car has it’s original engine and transmission and whether or not the car is a Tempest, LeMans, or GTO. There are decoding books that can help you decipher the vin numbers.

Q: What is the cheapest way to add HP to my 2006 GTO?
I have and automatic 2006 pontiac gto and i was wondering what are some little things i can do to give it a little extra horsepower. I dont want anything big like a supercharger or anything.

A: Cold air intake, and exhaust is the best place to start. Plugs and wires will do nothing for you horsepower wise.

Q: What is the best exhaust for my 2006 gto?
I have a 2006 automatic gto, and i was wondering what the best sounding exhaust was. I have been looking at borla and magnaflow, and are there any other good exhaust?

A: Magnaflow is fantastic. You cant beat it for the price. Check out there website. www.magnaflow.com if you havent already. Also have you resonator removed, and your car will sound like a complete monster! As far as for Magnaflows being for high school kids. I am 35 years old and love my magnaflow, and I am sure many will disagree with that statement. If I had a $250,000 vehicle and money was not an option, then of course I would go with top of the line stuff. Who wouldnt, but for those of us who are not rich and have families, and bills and mortages to pay, can settle for something that is a quality product at a decent price. Magnaflow is a quality product. I dont care what anybody says.

Q: What is the largest engine that will fit a 1969 GTO?
In the interest of a story I am currently writing (as well as something of a shopping list once I come to own the car itself), can anyone tell me what the most powerful engine that will fit into a 1969 GTO is? Further, what aftermarket upgrades could be made to this engine to maximize performance?

A: I would say go with an aftermarket Indian Adventures IA2 block at 560ci. This block, although aftermarket, is all Pontiac and will bolt directly into your car with no modifications. Then of course, I would get a set of Edelbrock heads with 2.11/1.77 valves/72cc combustion chamber, Eagle crank,Eagle H-beam rods, 12:1 forged pistons, Hooker Super Comp. Headers, Comp Cams camshaft, and a single-plane Edelbrock intake with a Holley 850dp carb.

After that, get ready to buy a new tranny and figure out how to make it hook… But you can ask those questions when you get there. Oh yeah, and your looks at about 12-15k to have an engine like this built.

Whatever you do though, don’t put a Chevrolet engine in it. Thats just a disgrace and waste of a good Pontiac. If you want to use a Chevy engine, get a ‘69 Chevelle instead.

Q: Who thinks Pontiac should redesign the GTO to look more like the original?
Like Ford did with the Mustang, Dodge with the Challenger, and Chevy with the Camaro. Shouldn’t Pontiac look at a more iconic body style for the GTO
I like the ‘69 GTO myself. But feel free to put down whichever you like.

A: I do. When I saw the new GTO’s, I laughed. I don’t get where they get off calling that a GTO.

I see that it’s also very hard to get the Challenger, Charger, and GTO’s with a manual transmission. Are they begging us not to buy them?

I don’t have a license, but I’m planning on changing that within the next few months, & (assuming the regulations go along with it) I’d like to get a Pontiac GTO. How much would that cost me?

A: I love pioneer, so i’d siggest you get one of their premier BT units

btw, that’s going to be an expensive swap…the blapunkt is integrated into the electronics of the car…

If you mess with it, you might get some elecronics issues with your engine..

A: it goes in the reservoir on the power steering pump on that car,a real easy one to do,good luck.

Q: What kind of gas does a 04 Pontiac GTO take?
Ok, so i’m currently in the market for a new car and I’ve fallen in love with the GTO. But I’m not sure what kind of gas it takes. I’ve been told that it’s premium unleaded. I hope not!! That gas is exspensive. And would it be ok to use mid grade gas? I want to find out before I get the car and mess it up by putting in the wrong fuel.

A: Once again people, if you don’t know don’t answer…

The recommended fuel for the GTO is Premium. But as someone posted, the computer will adapt to lower octane. I run regular in my GTO all the time and it’s fine.

Sorry to disagree w/ you spinner, but the knock sensor is part of the engine control system. If you’re going to nitpick…

And regular will NOT build up carbon faster than premium. In fact, the reverse is true. Regular actually burns hotter than premium, which is why you can’t advance the ignition timing or bump up the compression in the first place.

GM says ‘recommended’, not ‘required’. They are the experts, I’ll defer to them, thank you!

A: The 2006 Pontiac GTO only really came in one trim level with very few options. The most important decision you’ll have to make is manual or automatic transmission. No sunroof or NAV system was available.

A: well i leave the power and action all up to you cause i don tknow what you want to fish for but i love Shakespear’s ugly stik series… they all come with a 5 or 7 year warantee and they are bomb proof…slam them in a door….not broken, bend the tip all the way down to the handle…not broken, buddy accidently sits on it….not broken

oh and they are also very sensitive and you can feel even the slightest nibble on the bait

Q: Can i remove factory subwoofer in a gto and replace it?
Ok I want the pioneer premier TS-W3002D4 12″ 3500W CAR SUBWOOFER. Thats the speaker with 3500w and the magnet weighs 27.4 pounds. Will i be able to remove the factory subwoofer in a 2004 Pontiac GTO and put the pioneer speaker there?
will the window need to be changed?
