Q: What type of transmission fluid does a 1966 mustang C4 use?
I have a 1966 mustang with a v8 and c4 transmission and what type of trans fluid does my c4 use?
A: Type F is specifically designed for all pre-1977 Ford vehicles and some makes between 1977 and 1981. Effective March 1997, Ford discontinued administration of approvals for Type F fluids. However, there are still many vehicles on the road that use Type F. Type F and MERCON fluids are not interchangeable.
Q: What is the top speed of a 1966 mustang? What are the mph shift points?
What is the top speed of a 1966 mustang with a stock 289 engine and stock c4 trans? what are the mph shift points?
A: My buddy’s Mustang would do 85 mph in 2nd gear! and the top speed was around 120mph. remember, those speedometers weren’t that accurate
also the automatics had tall gears and much higher shift points than the sticks
then there are the GT’s with the HiPo and 4 speed options….
Ask these guys, they own them….
Q: The ignition wire on my 1966 Mustang is hot enough to melt electrical tape, is this normal? If not why?
1966 Mustang ignition wire seems to be getting too hot and melts any electrical tape on it.
A: No it is not normal – for ANY wire to run hot enough to melt electrical tape. The resister wire for the coil generally runs warmer than one might expect, but this wire is a special case – and even this wire is only warm to the touch, not anywhere near hot enough to melt electrical tape.
Something is definitely drawing too way much current. You’ll have to isolate the defective or shorted component or wire.

How do i remove the transmission vacuum modulator from my 1966 mustang v8 with automatic trans?. Then how do i install a new vacuum modulator? How do i adjust it?
A: there is one bolt that holds it in ,remove the bolt and pull straight back or lightly pry the valve out, there is a small metal pin in the valve ,dont lose it.transfer the pin to the new valve and install with a new o ring and reinstall the valve and vacuum hose, the valves have a color code band on them, get the same color replacement valve.if you can jack the car from the rear as some fluid will leak out otherwise

I need to know how to fold the top down on a 1964-1966 Mustang. Describe how to do it with and without a power top. Also please tell me how to fold it back up.
A: on those they have two clamp levers on each side above the windshield pull them open to release it push up on top as you push back wards the back there will be a hinge about 2 feet back from the edge that folds up as the back part of the top goes down. first be sure all the hinges are lubed first and you might have to pull and push gently on the folds to free it. if it does not move more than a few inch’s than its hydro assist and there are two Hydraulic Cylinder type shocks on the bottom in the trunk or behind the rear seats were the frame bolts to the car. remove the bracket that holds the Hydraulic Cylinder to the frame and it should move with ease.

Q: Can you put a 1988 Mercedes engine in a 1966 Mustang?
I have a engine from a 1988 Mercedes 190E, 4 cylinder How hard would it be to put this engine trans. in my 1966 Mustang?
A: with enough free time you could train a team of sled mice to pull your mustang.
Q: 1966 mustang?
about how much does it cost to buy one?
A: Probably anywhere between $500 and $15,000 depending on what model and how nice and original it is.But if you’re serious about getting one.Get the best one you can afford,it costs ALOT more to fix one up than to buy it already done, and it comes with alot less headaches to boot. But be very careful and get help from someone that REALLY knows what they are doing. You could buy a great car or a nightmare, just because it looks good doesn’t mean it is good!!! Good Luck.

Q: How Do I Replace Rear Main Seal On 1966 Mustang 289?
I Have A 1966 Mustang That is leaking oil from the rear main seal. anybody here know how to replace it? Is there anyway I could change it without removing the engine and transmission? Thanks in advance to anybody that helps me out.
A: It is a two piece seal and not a rope seal .
Its not your seal that you need to worry about .
Your main bearings are worn and the crank has excess movement which allows oil past the seal .
You can change just the seal and it will be leaking again in a few thousand miles .
Q: Does the 1966 Mustang have an automatic choke?
I have a 1966 mustang convertible. It has the v6 200 engine. I was curious if it has an automatic choke or not. I have to rebuild the carb anyway so i wanted to know.
A: all early Mustangs have automatic chokes on all models and all engines.. look for the heater pipe coming off the exhaust manifold and going to the round plastic housing on the side of the carburetor..
but it could have been converted to either electric or manual with a kit..
Q: Changing original 1966 mustang engine out for something more fuel efficient?
I want to replace my 1966 mustangs engine with a stronger faster but more fuel efficient engine. So i could drive further with it without having to worry about gas. I’m looking for ideas on a better engine that will take less gas but won’t take away from the power to much. My current engine is a 289 V8 that over heats pretty easy. I’m open to suggestions thanks.
A: Put in a fuel injected 5.0 with a stand alone injector controller & a six speed manual.
Q: What is the price range for a good body restoration on a 1966 Mustang Coupe?
What will the price range be if I restored my 1966 mustang Coupe Shell? The car is a complete shell with old paint on it. I have no Idea on how much it would cost if they stripped my car to bare metal and the painted it raven black or viper blue. My car is 95% rust free and I need a idea on how much it would cost. Thanks for everybody that helped me out
A: There are A LOT of variables here and it will all depend on what is under the current paint. A huge chunk of change will be body work so it will depend on how straight the body is under the current paint job. It may look straight but there could be bondo under the paint that makes it look straighter than it really is. Also, does any sheet metal need to be replaced due to rust? If so that will add up quickly. Raven black is a great color but for someone to paint your 66 that color it will cost considerably more than a lighter color. The body work on a black car has to be PERFECT for it to look right (you can see any little dent or ripple in black cars). So if you decide to stick with black, plan on extra $ for perfect body work. To bounce a number off of you and attempt to answer your question: My 65 had 2 dents and a few very small holes to be filled and pretty much zero rust, I had stripped a good part of the car to the metal and then shot it with etching primer…..the price for the body work, white paint with blue stripes, and to shoot spray in bedliner in the entire inside of the car was $4460. Again, this is with VERY little body work needed.
The end result is that you can get your car painted for $1000 or you can get your car painted for $10,000 and anywhere in between, it just depends on what you want out of it.
Q: Body dimensions of a 1966 Mustang coupe?
Anyone know the body size of a 1966 Mustang coupe? I don’t have access to the car right now to measure it but I need to find an appropriate size of storage unit in which to store it in.
A: 10foot by 20 foot will give u ample room to store ur mustang
Q: Can I put my 1996 mustang gt’s V8 motor into a 1966 mustang coupe?
